Conducting the community-based research project on the origins and history of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur was a rewarding experience full of learning and relationships. We discovered amazing stories and insights that brought the town's past to life when we dug into the archives and spoke with locals. Every bit of information, whether it was uncovering long-forgotten places or following the ancestors of well-known families, added to our knowledge of Caoayan's rich history.
Interacting with the community turned out to be a crucial part of our study project. Our conversations with lifelong residents and elders gave us access to firsthand recollections and stories that gave our conclusions more substance and authenticity. Their accounts illuminated significant historical moments in the town and offered valuable insights into how Caoayan has changed throughout time, maintaining customs while welcoming advancements.
